Illinois Political Reform
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
We have talked a lot about reform, but little has been accomplished. We need meaningful reform of our political system in Illinois to make the system less prone to corruption and more democratic for citizens. At a minimum, I support each and every one of the recommendations made this year by the Illinois Reform Commission, and I will push for the strongest versions of these reforms. A copy of the Commission’s final 100-day report is available at www.reformillinoisnow.org/
To summarize these reforms, I support:
- Meaningful campaign finance reform to end the corrosive effect of money on our politics;
- An independent state contracts procurement process that eliminates “pay-to-play” from the state procurement system;
- Stronger state anti-corruption laws and investigative tools for state law enforcement;
- Fairer government structures and processes - such as automating the redistricting process and setting terms limits for elected offices - to end the lack of accountability; and
- Transparency in government activity so that people can easily find out what their government is doing.
